Win streak at 20 after sweep of Cannoneers Thursday

WATERTOWN, NY – Playing in a road doubleheader after their rainout on Tuesday (4/26), the #7 Herkimer Generals baseball team defeated Jefferson Community College 13-6 and 3-1, giving the team 20 consecutive wins on the season.

In game one the Generals offense came two hits away from their season-high of 19, scoring 13 runs from four home runs and three doubles. Getting the big hit was Greg Musk (Rotterdam, NY). The sophomore hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, giving him a game-high four runs batted in. The only other Generals to get multiple RBI were Jake Rouse (Milford, CT), Petar Rumora (Palisades Park, NJ) and Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY). Each finished with two.

With the offense supplying enough run support, Jake Conroy (Kirkwood, NY) was able to get the win with Jon Sell (Burnt Hills, NY) coming in relief during the final three innings. Conroy allowed four runs off of four hits, striking out six Cannoneers for his second win (2-1) of the season. As for Sell, the freshman only allowed two runs, striking out three in his seventh appearance of the season.

Game two was a different story, as the offense managed just seven hits against Jefferson’s Jarrod Bellinger. Getting four of those hits was Christian Malave (Milford, CT) and Dorrian. Malave came through with hits in the first and third inning to finish the game with two runs batted in, giving him 32 on the season which is the fifth most in the region.

With the offense sputtering, Herkimer used three pitchers to get the win in game two. Kody Shaw (Fort Hunter, NY) got the start and went five innings before both Chris Henry (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Dan Nuzzi (Burnt Hills, NY) pitched an inning of shutout baseball, not allowing a hit. It helped Shaw to his second win of the season (2-1), allowing one earned run off of two hits while striking out eight Cannoneers.

Herkimer will look to keep their win streak intact this weekend when they face Hudson Valley Community College in a four-game series. The Generals will host the Vikings in the first doubleheader on Saturday (4/30). Game times are 12 and 2 p.m. Hudson Valley will then host on Sunday. Herkimer is the second best team while Hudson Valley is the third best team in the Region 3.
