Offense explodes against Cougars

HERKIMER, NY – Totaling 37 runs on 30 hits Saturday against Clinton Community College on Saturday, the Herkimer Generals Baseball team won both games of a doubleheader 22-0 and 15-4.
Herkimer 13-5 (5-1) jumped all over the Cougars offensively, scoring in six of their eight innings played. They scored 10 runs in the fourth inning of the first game and 12 in the third inning of the second game, thanks in part to whole team effort. 12 players had an RBI in the first game and nine players had an RBI in the second game.
Doing the most damage in game one was Matthew Lichtman (Smithtown, NY), A.J. Fabrizio (Palm City, FL), Tyler Phillips (Hancock, NY), Christopher Burns III (Endicott, NY) and Brandon Martinez (River Edge, NY). Lichtman went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Fabrizio went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Phillips went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Burns III went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Martinez went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Gathering one RBI in the game was Dan Colburn (Ilion, NY), Taishi Terashima (Hiranai, Aomori, Japan), Shinnosuke Takahashi (Chiba, Japan), Michael Fancher (Gloversville, NY), John Boland (Rhinebeck, NY), Lonnie Cohen (Teaneck, NJ) and Carlos Almonte (Brooklyn, NY).
Starting in the first game was Michael Harrington (Glens Falls, NY). Harrington earned his second win of the season throwing a complete game shutout. In five innings, he allow two hits, striking out eight.
As for game two, offensively the Generals had six players with two RBIs. They were Terashima, Thomas Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY), Phillips, Takahashi, Fancher and Almonte. Terashima finished 1-for-2, Carrigan finished 2-for-4, Phillips finished 1-for-3, Takahashi finished 1-for-1, Fancher finished 0-for-1 and Almonte finished 2-for-3.
Collecting one RBI was Andrew Cooper (Lansingburgh, NY), Cohen and Colburn. Cooper went 0-for-2, Cohen went 0-for-1 and Colburn went 1-for-1.
Starting the second game was Ben Moxley (Oneonta, NY). Moxley earned his first win of the season throwing a complete game. He allowed four runs on four hits, striking out 11 Cougars.
Herkimer’s next game is Sunday (3/15). Clinton Community College will host the Generals at Herkimer College due to their poor field conditions in Plattsburgh, NY. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
