Herkimer Men's Basketball open season with road win at Cayuga

Auburn, NY - The Herkimer Generals opened their 2018-2019 campaign with an 89-70 road win against Cayuga Community College on Thursday night in Auburn, NY. The Generals, the two time defending Region III Champions and winners of 5 of the last 6 Regional Championships, opened the season ranked # 4 in the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Preseason Poll.

Herkimer shot out to a 20 point halftime lead (46-26) and used a great shooting night to hold off any Cayuga run in the second half. Four other Generals reached double figures as well with Derrick Felder (Yonkers, NY) scoring 16 points, Keshaun Howard (Brooklyn, NY) added 15 points, while Kory Bergh (Amsterdam, NY) and Teshaun Beckles ( Bronx, NY) each netted 12 points apiece. Bergh and Howard combined to hit 5 3 pointers on the evening.

Next up for the Generals, who start the season by playing their first three games on the road, is a trip to Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday afternoon to open Mountain Valley Conference play against the Clinton Community College Cougars. Tip off time is set for 3:00 PM.
