Herkimer NY – Herkimer College men’s basketball player Derrick Felder has been named 2019 Division III National Player of the Year and First Team Division III All-American by the NJCAA. Felder led the Generals to their first Division III Men’s Basketball National Championship since 1991.

Felder, a sophomore guard from Yonkers, NY, averaged 15.3 points, 6.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game for Herkimer during the 2018-2019 season. He was also named the 2019 Division III National Tournament Most Valuable Player, the 2019 Region III Player of the Year and Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year.

In Felder’s two years at Herkimer, he led the Generals to a record of 58-7 with two Region III championships, a Mountain Valley Conference championship, and two appearances in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament, with a fourth place finish in 2018 and the 2019 national title.

Head Coach Matt Lee said, “I am very proud of Derrick as we watched him grow as a student athlete and a person these past two seasons. Derrick has a will to win that you cannot teach. That drive was passed onto his teammates as they accomplished this tremendous goal.”
