Herkimer gets defensive in 71-49 win over Clinton

HERKIMER — The Generals stood their ground on Saturday afternoon, allowing a season-low 49 points in a 71-49 win over the Clinton Community College Cougars.

 

After a back-and forth battle in the first 17 minutes, Herkimer (14-6, 8-2) outscored Clinton 10-0 in the final 2:47 of the first half to gain a 37-26 lead at halftime.

 

The Generals never trailed in the second half, allowing only 23 points in the latter half. 

 

Freshman guard Shykell Brown (Rochester) led the Generals with 18 points (5/9 FG, 5/6 FT), freshman guard Dante Griffin (Utica) added 15 (5/9 FG, 4/5 FT), and sophomore forward Ty Desinor (Brooklyn) chipped in nine (4/6 FG,1/3 FT)

 

Freshman guard Jayden Stephens (Yonkers) led both teams with 10 rebounds, and sophomore center Solomon Silas added nine.

 

Griffin, Brown and freshman guard Keyshawn Miller each led Herkimer with two assists.

 

Ashani Nelson led the Cougars (8-11) with 15 points; 11 of which came on free throws.

 

Herkimer is back in action on Wedensday, February 5th vs. Fulton-Montgomery CC at 7 p.m. in a home-and-home series
