Feiler and Garcia score in double-digits against Monroe

(Wendall Williams finishes with the alley oop from teammate RaShawn Collins II).

HERKIMER, NY – Despite scoring the first basket at the beginning of each half, the Herkimer General's Basketball team lost their first game of the season to Monroe Community College 75-63 in the varsity gym on Wednesday.

Herkimer (0-1, 0-0 MVC) had two players in double figures, they were sophomore forward Enson Garcia (Bronx, NY) and sophomore forward Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY). Garcia finished with 14 points and Feiler finished with 19.

Both players kept the team in the game after dropping by as much as nine (28-19) with 4:19 left in the first half. A 9-3 run, capped by a dunk by freshman guard Wendall Williams (Syrcause, NY) helped trim the Tribune lead to three (31-28), but a three-point field goal increased the deficit to six (34-28) at intermission.

The same continued in the second half, when Herkimer found themselves down by 10 (44-34) with 15 minutes left in regulation. Down, but not out, the team managed a 13-3 run to tie the game (47-47) in the span of three minutes with two Julio Galay (Bronx, NY) three-pointers, a Garcia three-pointer, a Williams from RaShawn Collins II (Harlem, NY) alley oop dunk and a Jerrell Hunter (Utica, NY) lay-up. A Feiler field goal and Williams lay-up gave the Generals their biggest lead of the game (53-49) with nine minutes left, but Monroe ended the game on a 26-10 run never trailing in the final seven minutes of the game.

For the Generals, Galay finished with nine points, Collins II finished with eight, Williams finished with nine and Jason Foden (Dolgeville, NY) finished with two.

Herkimer's next game is this Saturday (11/9) at home. They'll host Jefferson Community College at 1 p.m.
