Seniors score 48 in route to victory over Royals

(Wendall Williams had many dunks on Wednesday, including this one, finishing the game with 20 points).

HERKIMER, NY – Getting 48 points from upperclassmen on Senior Night, most of them via highlight reel plays, the Herkimer Generals men’s basketball team cruised past Schenectady County Community College Wednesday evening, defeating the Royals 98-47.

Herkimer 21-7 (13-3) started off the first half slow until sophomore Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY) received a pass off the backboard from Jerrell Hunter (Utica, NY), dunking it with authority to gives the Generals a two point lead with 13 minutes to go in the half. Two more dunks from Wendall Williams (Syracuse, NY) got the team moving in the right direction before RaShawn Collins II (Harlem, NY) hit a three to give his team a seven point lead (17-10) with 11 minutes left in the half.

Feiler took over the game from there, scoring 13 more points, grabbing three offensive rebounds and dishing out two assists on his way to 23 first half points and a team-high 29 by the end of regulation. Teammates Enson Garcia (Bronx, NY) and Collins II helped cap a 33-6 run, knocking down three field goals from deep to give Herkimer a 50-16 halftime lead.

It didn’t stop there, the first possession of the second half saw another three-point field goal from Garcia, who finished with 11. Then a Williams three-point field goal and dunk on a Jason Foden (Dolgeville, NY) miss from the offensive end, built the deficit to 43, bringing his team and the crowd to their feet in the process.

Upperclassmen Foden and Tyler DeChalus (Elmont, NY) rounded out the senior class scoring in the final 12 minutes of regulation when Foden scored on an assist from Hunter to give Herkimer a 77-28 lead. DeChalus did his work on consecutive possessions, giving his team a 51 and 53 point lead on assists from Charles Reese (Hartford, CT) to put Herkimer at 94-41. A Mike Santillo (Mohawk, NY) three and DeChalus free throw gave the Generals 98 and their 13th win in the Mountain Valley Conference this season.

Herkimer will look to keep their winning streak alive this Saturday (2/22) at North Country. The Generals defeated the Saints 79-64 the last time they played. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
