Generals end season beating Lincoln 101-94

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY – The Herkimer Generals men’s basketball team finished their season off on a high note, defeating Lincoln College of New England 101-94 at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse Saturday during the seventh place game at the NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament.

Herkimer (26-9) had nine players contribute in the game, led mostly by their top three scorers this season Wendall Williams (Syracuse, NY), Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY) and Enson Garcia (Brooklyn, NY). The three players combined or 78 points, helping the Generals amount an 11 point lead in the first half. Williams led his team with 31 points, Feiler followed with 30 and Garcia finished with 17. Added to it, Williams had eight rebounds and six assists; Feiler had 12 rebounds and three blocks; and Garcia had two rebounds and six assists.

With those three playing well throughout the game, the Wildcats never gave enough of an answer to capture a lead, one the Generals had the entire game. They had two separate runs in each half, getting within five points of the Generals, but Herkimer answered each time, something they were not able to do in their games on Thursday and Friday.

The second half started just like the first, with the Generals scoring quickly. Within the first three minutes of the second half, Herkimer had an 11-point lead (55-44). The deficit for the Wildcats got as many as 16 points.

The last minute of the game saw dunks by Feiler and Williams, increasing their lead at the time to 13. A last second three-point field goal made it 101-91, giving Herkimer a seventh place finish in the tournament, their third appearance (2010, 2013 and 2014) in the last five years.

Other contributors for Herkimer were Julio Galay (Brooklyn, NY), Jerrell Hunter (Utica, NY), Peter Clark (Utica, NY), Jason Foden (Dolgeville, NY), RaShawn Collins II (Harlem, NY) and Anthony Lanieri (Port Jefferson, NY), Galay finished with seven points, two rebounds and two assists; Hunter finished with six points and two rebounds; Clark finished with four points and one rebound; Collins II finished with two points, one rebound and one assist; and Lanieri finished with one point, two rebounds and two assists.

Making it to the All-Tournament team was Williams. In three games for the Generals, Williams scored 79 points, shooting 71 percent from the field and 80 percent for three point range. His back-to-back 30 point games against Anoka-Ramsey and Lincoln were his first this season.
