Generals defeat MV, will play for Region 3 championship today

Delhi, NY – The Generals posted a solid victory in their Region 3 semifinal game on Saturday afternoon, downing Mohawk Valley 84-73 and earning a berth in the regional championship game. The Herkimer Five will meet defending champion Delhi in the title game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Herkimer played well and unselfishly on Saturday afternoon. Five different Generals scored in double figures. Jonathan Feiler led with 18 points. Jerome Floyd popped in 16. Johnnie Davis contributed 14. Demetrius Mitchell scored 13. Mike Thomas tallied 11.

Sunday's game will cap off a marvelous season for the Herkimer men's basketball squad. They have won 29 times and have lost only three games in the current campaign.

The Generals will be seeking the regional crown and the unseating of the defending champs. Herkimer won the regional title in 2010, but the Delhi Broncos have won it the past two seasons. Those three championship games were all played on a neutral court, at Jefferson CC. This year the title will be contested in Delhi's own arena.

Herkimer and Delhi met twice this season. Herkimer won 55-33 on their home hardwood and the Broncos won 65-58 in their own corral.
