Chyanna Bernier is the 2017 NJCAA DIII women’s cross country champion.  In a field of 134 runners and 14 complete teams, “Chy” as she is better known, beat the rest of the competition and stands alone as national champion.  Bernier's hard work and perseverance over the last two years has paid off.

The Ilion, NY native ran the championship course in a time of 18:43 finishing 8 seconds ahead of her closest competition.  The Generals number one runner has finished in the top five or better in every race this year.  Bernier also broke Herkimer’s course record this year at the Generals home invitational.

Bernier has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 9th.  Chy has also been named the Oct. 24th Region III Female Athlete of the Week.  Chyanna Bernier will now be in an elite class of her own.  There is only one women's NJCAA DIII national champion named each year and this year it is Herkimer General - Chyanna Bernier.
