Cross Country competes at SUNY Delhi Invite
DELHI, NY – After what could be considered an off-day at home last Saturday (9/30), the Herkimer Generals mens and womens cross country teams were out for redemption Wednesday (10/3) at the SUNY Delhi Bronco Classic.
Unfortunately, the women could not fill out a complete squad here. However, all 4 Lady Generals had significant season’s best performances in a very effective pack-run (less than 40 seconds separated the 4 Herkimer finishers).
Leading the way for the first time this season was emerging rookie Jenna-Marie LaPerla (Mount Markham/Ilion, NY). The first time runner completed the 5-kilometer course in 26:52.3 and was the 3rd placing junior collegian in the field.
Close behind, and also with outstanding times, were Isabel Van Tassel (Cazenovia/Cazenovia, NY), Claire Connolly (Little Falls/Little Falls, NY) and Malerie Belles (Cicero-North Syracuse/Clay, NY). Van Tassel and Connolly finished close together in 30th and 31st (27:05.8 and 27:20.1, respectively), while Belles charged home shortly thereafter in 35th (27:28.4).
As for the men, despite lacking a couple top runners, recorded their third straight runner up finish, scoring 60 points. Like the last time, the host team (in this case, SUNY Delhi) won with a perfect score.
Leading the attack for the General men, for the 4th time this season, was Andrew Yaccobucci (Canajoharie/Canajoharie, NY). He was 18th with a very good time of 18:31.9, 2nd best amongst junior collegians in the field, and tops amongst NJCAA Division 3 competitors.
Jake Baisley (Dolgeville/Dolgeville, NY), Lewis Lewis (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica, NY), Kennyasha Joseph (Dover/Dover Plains, NY), Jordan Edmonds (Bridgeport Aerospace and Business/Bridgeport, CT), Kyler Ford (Herkimer/Herkimer, NY), Ricky Patterson (Peekskill/Peekskill, NY) and George Watson (Herkimer/Herkimer, NY). Baisley ran in 21st (18:52.7), Lewis kicked to 24th (19:35.2), Joseph grabbed 30th (20:19.3) with Edmonds directly behind in 31st (20:21.1), Ford held on to 34th (20:42.9), Patterson finished 35th (21:06.8) and Watson held off a crowd to round out the Herkimer pack in 36th (21:27.4).
The Generals are back in action Saturday (10/6) to compete in the Hamilton College Invitational. It will be their final meet of the regular season
