Medina, Jones shine for Herkimer Cross Country
MARCY, NY – A pleasant Saturday morning was the breeding ground for another big effort, as the Herkimer Generals cross country teams impressed once again at the 7th Annual SUNY Poly Wildcat Weekend Classic.
Alyssa Jones (Central Valley/Ilion, NY) was once again the sole constant on the women’s end of the coin, but she did turn in a 43rd place finish individually. Her time of 34:56.6 for the 6,000 meter course was 3rd best amongst NJCAA competitors.
The men had another strong showing of their own, finishing 5th against a strong field. Despite the continued absence of a top runner, they had the best finish by an NJCAA team.
The Generals were led once again by Wakeem Medina (Schenectady/Schenectady, NY). The freshman clinched the final spot in the top 25. His time of 30:00.4 for the 8,000 meter course was the 2nd best by a junior collegiate competitor on the day.
Following behind Medina were Christopher Hardin (Rome Free Academy/Rome, NY) in 37th (31:44.7), Lewis Lewis (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica, NY) in 39th (32:07.7), Nick Kennedy (Central Valley/Ilion, NY) in 59th (34:57.0), and William Crews (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica, NY) in 64th (37:04.9).
Herkimer returns to action in two weeks’ time for the Hamilton College Continental Invitational. The October 5th contest is slated to begin at 10 AM.
