Morrett and Campanian earn Region III Championships

CANANDAIGUA, NY – With freshman Victoria Campanian (Glenfield, NY) finishing first and freshman Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY) finishing third on Saturday at Finger Lakes Community College, each runner earned themselves an NJCAA Region III Division III Championship.

The men's team, which competed against SUNY Delhi, Mohawk Valley Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Broome Community College and Hudson Valley Community College, placed fourth overall (103 points) at the end of the day with eight Generals competing. Their top runner, as mentioned before was Morrett, finishing in 29:21 which was good enough for third place. Behind Morrett was Yuta Shinohara (Hiratsuka, Japan) who finished 14th overall (30:36).

Herkimer's final six runners were Erick Febus (Hannibal, NY), Ashanti Davis (East Greenbush, NY), Brandon Rawson (Ilion, NY), Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY), David Stanley (Bronx, NY) and DaQuan Corbitt (Central Islip, NY). Febus finished 24th (31:33), Davis finished 29th (31:51), Rawson finished 33rd (32:10), Tanner finished 45th (35:34), Stanley finished 50th (36:56) and Corbitt finished 54th(41:43).

The Lady Generals had seven runners who competed against Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY Delhi and Finger Lakes Community College. Running away from the second-place finisher from Hudson Valley, who had an incomplete, was Campanian. She finished Saturday's course in a time of 20:29. It was 28 seconds better than Morgan DuBois of the Vikings. It was Campanian's fourth first place finish this season.

Other finishers for the women were Tianderah Twichell (West Winfield, NY), Dayonna Williams (Bronx, NY), Alicia Burnett (Old Forge, NY), Renee Hamilton (Herkimer, NY), Ashley Dennis (Cooperstown, NY) and Tahentahawi Chubb. Twichell finished 16th overall (24:10), Williams finished 21st (24:59), Burnett finished 26th (26:06), Hamilton finished 31st (27:03), Dennis finished 33rd (27:39) and Chubb finished 36th (29:16).

The Generals last meet of the season is their last, at the NJCAA National Championships. That meet will be hosted by Holyoke Community College on Sunday, November 9th.
