Women place second at Bridgeman Invitational

CANANDIAGUA, NY – Competing in their first meet against only NJCAA opponents at Finger Lakes Community College on Friday (9/11), the Herkimer Generals cross country team saw the men get an incomplete and the women finish second overall at the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational.

Running for the men was Norman Clayton (Bronx, NY), Matt Manda (Scotia, NY) and Taj Parker (Mount Vernon, NY). Each had their best finish of the season. Clayton finished eighth overall (31:33.8), Manda finished 15th (35:11.8) and Parker finished 40th (53:58.5).

As for the women - they had an even better day - finishing in second place overall. The group of Ashley Lynch (Cohoes, NY), Shiena Kimura (Tokyo, Japan), Jessica Malskis (Jay, NY), Yu Inose (Mito, Japan), Elazjah DeDeaux (Syracuse, NY) and Mandi LeClair (Sherburne, NY) combined for 37 points at the invitational. All six participants finished in the Top 20, seeing Lynch (25:09.3) and Kimura (27:54.3) place the highest, seventh and 10th place respectively. After those two, Malskis finished 13th (31:12.2), Inose finished 14th (31:37.2), DeDeaux finished 17th (36:56.9) and LeClair finished 19th (39:35.1).

Herkimer’s next meet is in eight days, traveling to SUNY Polytechnic again for the second time this season. The Wildcat Weekend Classic is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
