Clayton runs his way to the All-Region Team
CANANDIAGUA, NY – Capturing his third Top 10 finish of the season, this time at the Region III Championship, Herkimer’s Norman Clayton (Bronx, NY) placed ninth at Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday (10/24), helping the freshman to the All-Region Team.
Clayton – who finished in eighth place back in September on the same course, ran 27 seconds faster which helped the men place seventh overall. Joining Clayton on the five mile course was Matt Manda (Scotia, NY), Taj Parker (Mount Vernon, NY), John Alessi (Red Hook, NY) and Daniel Coradin (Bronx, NY). Manda and Parker were the only other two men familiar with the course, placing 20th and 46th overall. Manda knocked off one minute and 37 seconds from his September time, while Parker knocked off 13 minutes and 22 seconds.
As for Alessi and Coradin, both freshman finished in 53rd and 55th place, posting a 47:29.8 and 56:40.7 respectively.
Not to be forgotten, the women fared better collectively than the men, placing fourth overall in a field of 30 participants. Leading the way again was Ashley Lynch (Cohoes, NY). The freshman finished 12th overall, running a 23:40.2 which was her personal best this season. Lynch finished first overall for the Generals in every race but one, averaging times in the low 20’s.
Behind Lynch was Shiena Kimura (Tokyo, Japan), Yu Inose (Tokyo, Japan), Elazjah DeDeaux (Syracuse, NY) and Mandi LaClair (Jay, NY). Kimura and Inose - who were just as consistent for the Generals as Lynch - competed in every meet but the first at SUNY Poly, accumulating four Top 20 finishes. That consistency was prevalent on Saturday with Kimura placing 18th (25:33.6) and Inose placing 23rd (26:44.0).
Rounding out the women’s attack, as mentioned previously, was DeDeaux and LeClair. DeDeaux ran the five mile kilometer course in 31:43.9 and 37:00.6 with DeDeauz capturing 29th and LaClair capturing 30th.
The Generals final meet of the season will be in Holyoke, MA the host for the 2015 National Championship meet. Competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
