Herkimer Generals Assistant Golf Coach named Teacher and Coach of the Year by CNY PGA

HERKIMER, NY—Herkimer County Community College Assistant Golf Coach Jack Conger has been named the 2020 Teacher and Coach of the Year by the Central New York Professional Golf Association. He also won the 2020 Player Development Award.

The Teacher and Coach of the Year honor recognizes a PGA Professional who is an outstanding teacher of golf among the ranks of PGA membership, according to the Association. This award is based on a professional’s overall performance in teaching; unusual, innovative and special teaching programs initiated or implemented; articles published; as well as outstanding golfers the professional has instructed.

Conger is deeply committed to utilizing the latest techniques to help his students improve their game. He incorporates professional-level technology into his coaching, including the use of video services like Hudl for video review and performance analysis; FlightScope, the world's first 3D Doppler tracking radar for golf; Blast Motion, a professional-level sensor for putting; and FastFirst Golf for measuring and increasing their swing speed.

The Player Development Award honors Conger’s “extraordinary and exemplary contributions and achievements in the area of player development,” according to the CNY PGA, including leadership commitment.

Conger is a decorated golf coach. He was inducted into the CNY PGA Hall of Fame last year, and this is his fourth Section Teacher of the Year award, having won in 1991, 2004, and 2006. This is also his second time winning the Player Development Award, having previously taken home the honor in 2014.
