Herkimer General’s lacrosse captain commits to St. Lawrence University
The 2021 Herkimer Generals men’s lacrosse captain, Alexander Fowler, has committed to St. Lawrence University for the continuation of his education. He will also be playing for the Saints lacrosse team.
Fowler, a senior Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies, A.S student from New Hartford, NY, is a midfielder on the General’s team. He previously played on the varsity team at New Hartford high school, where he was a defenseman and saw the team win three consecutive Section III Tri-Valley League championships.
Off the field, Fowler excelled academically at Herkimer College, earning him repeated spots on the President’s List. He serves as president of the College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society, and was selected to be a student representative during the College’s reaccreditation process with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
The Saints are members of Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. They went 3-0 in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and went 13-4 overall, 5-3 in Liberty League play, and finished the season ranked 20th in the Nike/U.S. Division III Men's Lacrosse Top-20 poll in 2019.
“We as a program are extremely excited for Alex and his family,” said Zachary Robbins, Herkimer College’s interim head men’s lacrosse coach. “Alex is an extremely hard worker, very agile, very physical—he plays with a ferocity and a determination that’s unmatched, and has a nose for ground balls. Serving as our captain for the 2020-21 season has shown his leadership ability and been an overall amazing process for him to grow as an individual.”
