Late goals by Mowrey edges Generals over Bulldogs

FRANKLIN, MA – Getting their first double digit goal count in only their second game of the regular season helped the Herkimer Generals men’s lacrosse team capture a 10-9 win over Dean College on Tuesday (3/17), for their first win of the season.

Herkimer (1-1) tied in every period but the third with the Bulldogs, netting one more goal on shots by both Cristian Ojeda (Ossining, NY) and Ryan Fischer (Monroe, NY). Each player combined for three in the game, with Fischer scoring two and Ojeda scoring one goal.

Netting the game winning goal for the Generals in the fourth period was Jeremy Mowrey (Johnstown, NY). The sophomore scored both goals in the final seven minutes of regulation on assists by Fischer, who ended the game with four. Mowrey finished the game with three goals, tying teammate Kyle Lee (Cincinnati, OH) for the team lead in that category.

In goal for Herkimer was sophomore Austin Loeffel (Red Hook, NY). In 60 minutes Loeffel had an impressive 21 saves, 14 of them coming in the second half for his first career win as a General.

I’m proud of the way my team played Tuesday,” said Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Jamie Ireland. “They hung in there for four quarters, playing hard throughout which got us the win!”
