Generals cruise past Hawks for third consecutive win

UTICA, NY – With multiple contributors Saturday (3/28) at D’Alessandro Stadium in a Mountain Valley Conference matchup, the Herkimer Generals men’s lacrosse team won their third consecutive game defeating the Hawks 17-4.

Herkimer (3-1) mounted an early 6-0 in the first quarter, with five different players scoring goals to help the Generals set the tone. Freshman Ryan Fischer (Monroe, NY) got it started with a goal in the first minute of the game unassisted, finishing the game with three goals and one assist.

Following Fischer with goals was Jon Wilkins (Norwalk, CT), Isaac Miranda (Norwalk, CT), Jeremy Mowrey (Johnstown, NY) and Kyle Lee (Cincinnati, OH). Wilkins finished with one goal and two assists, Miranda finished with a game-high four goals and two assists, Mowrey finished with three goals and two assists and Lee finished with three goals and two assists.

The Generals went into halftime with a 10-1 lead, scoring four more unanswered goals into intermission.

The second half saw Herkimer outscore the Hawks 7-to-3, having most reserves play in the fourth. Sophomore Cristian Ojeda (Ossining, NY) was the final player to contribute statistically. The midfielder scored two goals in the third, one was assisted by Kevin Mahon (Monroe, NY), helping the team to their first conference win and largest victory of the season.

In goal for Herkimer was Autin Loeffel (Red Hook, NY) and Mario Diaz (New Rochelle, NY). Loeffel started and saved five shots in the first half. Diaz came in the second half, saving three shots.

Up next for the Generals is SUNY Delhi. The Broncos will be the first nationally ranked team Herkimer faces this season. The Broncos are currently 2-2, and winners of their last two games. Both teams have solid goalies who rank in the Top 5 in save percentage nationally. The game will be played at Wehrum Stadium on Wednesday, April 1st. The scheduled start time is 6 p.m.
