Career high in goals by Lee lifts Generals over Thunderwolves

HERKIMER, NY – Netting over 20 goals in their second straight game, led by a career-high 11 goals by sophomore Kyle Lee (Cincinnati, OH), the Herkimer Generals men’s lacrosse team cruised to their seventh consecutive victory of the season Sunday (4/12), defeating Niagara County 29-3 at Wehrum Stadium.

Herkimer (7-1) led this one after Lee scored his first two goals of the game on assists from Jeremy Mowrey (Johnstown, NY). It helped break a 1-1 tie, ripping off 21 unanswered goals into the third quarter for the team’s largest victory of the season. Lee finished with a career-high 11 goals and two assists while Mowrey finished with five goals and three assists.

In total, Herkimer had nine players score in the game. Getting their first goal as a Generals was Jeramiah Robinson (Johnstown, NY) and Justin Steiner (Butler, PA). Both scored the team’s final two goals of the game, in the final four minutes unassisted, helping Herkimer to four more unanswered goals against the Timberwolves.

Splitting time in goal for the Generals was Austin Loeffel (Red Hook, NY) and Mario Diaz (New Rochelle, NY). Loeffel got the start in the first half, saving one shot in 30 minutes. Diaz played the entire second half, allowing two goals, but saving seven total.

Up next for Herkimer is the best team in the nation, Onondaga. The #1 ranked Lazers just tied the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer record of 97 straight wins on Saturday (4/11), which is the all-time record for consecutive wins across all sports. Our men’s lacrosse team obtained its first national ranking in some time last week, given the #7 spot after beating SUNY Delhi at home. The game between the Generals and Lazers is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15th at Wehrum Stadium, Herkimer’s final home game of the regular season. 6 p.m. is the scheduled start time.
