#7 Generals unable to win on the road to #9 Finger Lakes

CANANDIAGUA, NY – Playing their final regular season game on Sunday (4/19) against #9 Finger Lakes Community College, the #7 Herkimer Generals men’s lacrosse team lost 14-7.

Herkimer (8-3) played Sunday with little rest, making up for a postponement from earlier in the season. It would be the team’s third game in five days and second game against a nationally ranked opponent, and it showed. The Generals managed six goals, only the second time this season they were held below double digits this season to an NJCAA opponent.

The trio of Jeremy Mowrey (Johnstown, NY), Ryan Fischer (Monroe, NY) and Kyle Lee (Cincinnati, OH) combined for five of the team’s six goals, but the team needed more from them with the Lakers netting seven goals in each half. Mowrey had one goal, while Fischer and Lee both had two goals and one assist, seeing the offense attempt a season-low 28 shots on goal.

In goal on Sunday was Austin Loeffel (Red Hook, NY). The sophomore allowed double digits goals in a game for only the second time this season, each of them coming in the last three games played. Loeffel finished with seven saves in the game.

Up next for #7 Herkimer is #9 SUNY Delhi. The Broncos will travel to Wehrum Stadium on Wednesday, April 22nd to play in a Region III Quarterfinal game at 4 p.m. The Generals already beat SUNY Delhi 10-6 at home this season, but the Broncos have not lost a game since then, racking up seven consecutive wins. Added to this SUNY Delhi beat Finger Lakes 12-11 on their home field.
