#2 Herkimer Men sweep weekend games with Jamestown and Clinton

Herkimer, NY – Herkimer had five different goal scorers in their 5-1 win over visiting Jamestown.  The Generals opened up the scoring in the 8th minute on a goal from sophomore Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) from an assist from sophomore Jaahdel Cyril (Bridgeport, Connecticut).  Cyril headed the ball from eight yards out that hit the crossbar and Blair followed up the rebound for a one touch finish.  Jamestown tied the game in the 22nd minute off of a Herkimer turnover inside their own penalty area.  Tyler West took advantage of the turnover finishing to the low near post beating sophomore goalkeeper Tinius Klausen (Oslo, Norway).  The Generals broke the tie three minutes later off of a goal from Cyril in the 25th minute off an assist from Blair.  Freshman Alex Charles (Christ Church, St. Kitts) was taken down inside the penalty area in the 80th minute drawing a penalty kick.  Charles attempt was saved by Jamestown’s Jacob Moore.  Sophomore Ryheim Hinds (Bridgeport, Connecticut) scored off the rebound with a first time strike to the far post.  Charles scored in the 80th minute from an assist from Cyril.  Freshman Ikiel Collins-Brown (Highland Mills, NY) finished off the scoring in the 84th minute from an assist from freshman Minato Nakayama (Hyogo, Japan).

 

Klausen recorded three saves in eighty minutes of play.  Freshman Manabu Takahashi (Osaka, Japan) played the last ten minutes making one save.

 

Plattsburgh, NY – Freshman Alex Charles (Christ Church, St. Kitts) scored three goals to lead Herkimer to a 7-0 win against Clinton CC.  Freshman Ikiel Collins-Brown (Highland Mills, NY) opened up the scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from Sophomore Luca Fahling (Domat, Switzerland).  Sophomore Jaahdel Cyril (Bridgeport, Connecticut) scored in the 29th minute off an assist from sophomore Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario, Canada).  Blair headed the ball off the crossbar and Cyril scored off of the rebound.  Blair scored the next two goals of the game in the 37th and 39th minute both coming from Fahling.  Charles tallied the final three goals of the game.  His first came in the 41st minute off an assist from Fahling.  His final two assists were from Collins-Brown.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Manabu Takahashi (Osaka, Japan) recorded three saves in 90 minutes of play.  The Generals are currently ranked #2 in the NJCAA national poll.  Herkimer returns home to play North Country Community College on Wednesday for Pete McAvoy night.  Kick-off is at 7:00pm.  The Generals will be wearing pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.  The Coliseum Celtic FC u-14 boys soccer team will also be recognized for winning the 2019 Thruway league championship.
