Men’s Soccer Blanks Third Consecutive Opponent

JOHNSTOWN, NY – Outscoring their last three opponents 21-0, the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team defeated Fulton-Montgomery Community College 9-0 Saturday (9/13) afternoon to remain undefeated on the season.

Herkimer (6-0, 2-0) had allowed three goals in their first three games, but have seemed to straighten things out since then, shutting out their last three opponents. Starting each one of those games has been sophomore Austin Santor (Chazy, NY). Against the Raiders Santor saved two shots, amassing six saves in his last 180 minutes. Splitting time with Santor in the Generals last two victories has been Alberto Sanchez (Yonkers, NY). In 90 minutes, the freshman has two saves.

As for the offense, Herkimer managed to score five goals in the first and four goals in the second half. Scoring twice were Ben Polk (Banbury, UK), Femi Kaffo (London, England) and Preston Higgins (Port Chester, NY). It was Polk’s fifth multi-goal game this season and the first for both Kaffo and Higgins.

Other scorers in the contest were Mitchel White (Leicester, England), Shane Jenkinson (Dublin, Ireland) and Mitsuru Takayashiki (Morioka, Japan). White and Jenkinson scored their first goals of the season in the 29th and 44th minute on assists, giving Herkimer a 2-0 and 5-0 lead. As for Takayashiki, his goal in the 86th minute was his second of the season and the last for the Generals, increasing the lead to 9-0. Assisting on the final goal of the game was sophomore Justin Bergman (Merrick, NY). It was his first of the season.

Herkimer’s next game is against Monroe Community College on Wednesday (9/17). The Tribunes are 4-3, but 4-1 in their last five games. The Generals will look to stay undefeated on the road (2-0), facing their first NJCAA DI opponent this season. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
