Generals collect seventh shutout against Hawks
(Peter McAvoy got the Generals on the board in the first minute of Wednesdays game).
HERKIMER, NY – Staying undefeated at home this season, the Herkimer Men's Soccer team collected their seventh shutout this season against Mohawk Valley Community College, winning 4-0 at Wehrum Stadium on Wednesday.
The Generals (9-1) managed to score yet another early goal, this time in the first minute (0:55) when Matthew Clinton (Manchester, England) connected with teammate Peter McAvoy (Dundee, Scotland) off a corner for the 1-0 lead.
Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland) and Ailton DoRosario (Ansonia, CT) also had chances in the 32nd and 40th to increase the lead, but were unfortunate in finding the net.
James Wilson (Woodford Green, England) had the same happen to him in the 50th minute, when a header of his was saved, but he made up for it just 47 seconds later when Windster found Wilson after penetrating deep into the Hawk defense for the goal, putting the Generals up 2-0.
A weird series of events ensued from the 60th to 68th minute. A near-goal header by Clinton was waived due to an off-side call, but a defensive goal counted by Mohawk Valley to give Herkimer the 3-0 lead.
After everything settled, Preston Higgins (Port Chester, NY) scored the fourth goal of the game (4-0) for the Generals in the 75th. Assisting on the play was White, his first assist on the season.
Earning another shutout, his seventh of the season, was Triston Henry (Scarborough, Ont.) for the Generals. Henry saved five shots, giving him 37 this season.
Herkimer travels to SUNY Delhi this Saturday before two consecutive home games to end the regular season. The Broncos will host the Generals at 3 p.m.
