Generals pull away in first half
(MacIntyre Felton finds the net for the fourth and final goal of the game).
HERKIMER, NY – Scoring four goals in the first half, all from different players, Herkimer went on to beat Jefferson Community College 4-0 Tuesday evening at Wehrum Stadium.
Riding a four-game win streak into the game, the Generals poured it on the Cannoneers early. In the 7th minute, on their fourth shot-on-goal, Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland) found the net after an excellent pass from teammate Matthew Clinton (Manchester, England). It was Windster's first goal in six games, giving the Generals a 1-0 lead.
Netting the second goal was sophomore midfielder Brian Coyt (Port Chester, NY). In the 25th minute, Windster placed a cross from inside the goalie box on the right-hand side to Coyt, who positioned himself perfectly in the center of the field, connecting for the 2-0 lead.
Piling on the lead was James Wilson (Woodford Green, England). Wilson's fourth goal of the season came from outside the goalie box after MacIntrye Felton (Vestal, NY) lead Wilson to an open spot in the defense.
Four minutes later, Felton was rewarded for his previous assist when Jimmy Calderon tallied his sixth assist of the season to Felton, who drilled it past the Cannoneer goalie for the 4-0 lead. The goal was Felton's third goal in the team's last eight games.
Splitting time at goalie was Triston Henry (Scarborough, Ont.) and Austin Santor (Chazy, NY). In 55 minutes Henry saved two shots and collected his ninth shutout, while Santor saved two in 35 minutes.
The Generals next game, which is their last home game of the regular season, is against Genesee Community College. The Cougars are 9-4 overall and 8-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference. It will be a grind-it-out game for the #1 ranked Generals who are 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Game time is 1 p.m.
