Terashima Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year
HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals baseball player Taishi Terashima was named 2015 Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year, helping his team to its second consecutive Region III Championship and third place finish at nationals.
Terashima - who is from Hiranai, Japan – led the nation in runs scored (82), was seventh in hits (78), ninth in doubles (17), 10th in batting average (.459), sixth in on-base percentage (.557) and 14th in stolen bases (21). The outfielder had a superb Region III Final Four tourney, hitting .450 (9-for-20) with six runs scored and seven runs batted in. Three of those RBI came against Erie Community College in an elimination game. The sophomore tied the game (8-8) with an opposite field hit, watching the Generals score seven runs in the inning down 8-2, then came around to score the game winning run when Tyler Phillips singled him home for the 9-8 lead. It was Terashima's third go-ahead run scored in the tournament, doing it twice before from second base on sacrifice fly balls.
"Taishi had a great year and worked extremely hard to achieve all that he did this past season," said Head Baseball Coach Jason Rathbun. "We wish him the best of luck at St. Bonaventure next year!"
