Gabrielle "Gabe" Coffey enters her third season as head coach of the Herkimer Generals Women's Basketball Team in 2018-2019. She finished her second year with the Generals in 2018-2019 with a berth in the Region III Playoffs for the program's first time since 2016. Coffey has an overall record of 12-33 at Herkimer.
Gabe has four years of head coaching experience at NJCAA Region lll member institutions where she has a track record of leading programs to the top of Region lll. During a two year stint at Hudson Valley Community College, Gabe led the Vikings to a regional playoff birth each year and in her first season garnered Coach of the Year for the Mountain Valley Conference (2010) and followed that with NJCAA Region lll Coach of the year in 2011. She was most recently the head coach at Finger Lakes Community College (2014-2016) where, in a re-building effort, she recruited and attracted some of the top players in Region lll.
She has served as an assistant coach for arguably the top two Division lll women's basketball programs in the region, Ithaca College and The University of Rochester. While on staff for the Bombers, Gabe obtained a master's degree in Sport Psychology.
Coffey continued her career as an assistant with the University of Rochester in 2012 where she was responsible for all aspects of game film exchange and breakdown as well as all facets of the women's basketball strength and conditioning program. The Yellowjackets reached the second round of the NCAA tournament and were ranked in the top 20 in National rankings during her tenure.
With a decade of coaching experience, Coffey began her career under the tutelage of her father Dave Doemel Sr., who is the varsity boys basketball coach at Christian Brothers Academy (Albany). She served as his assistant during the 2006-2007 season and continues to assist with running the Brothers summer basketball camp.
As an athlete, Gabe excelled at SUNY Oneonta after spending one season at Siena College. She received All-SUNYAC honors and captained her team to an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship during her senior season and garnered most outstanding player award for the tournament. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology. Coffey also holds a master's degree and NYS certification in School Counseling which allows her to effectively assist her student-athletes with academic endeavors and the transfer process.
Gabe resides in Utica with her husband Sean and two children, Brielle and Richard "Rip".
Sean is the head men's basketball coach at Utica College.
