# 10 Generals use big second half to defeat # 7 Hawks
Herkimer, NY - Junasia Lanier (Albany, NY) scored 20 points to lead the # 10 Herkimer Generals to a 76-68 win over rival Mohawk Valley on Wednesday night before a capacity crowd in the Herkimer Varsity Gym. The win gives the Generals a sweep over the # 7 Hawks in the regular season series and improves Herkimer's record to 13-4 overall and a 6-1 mark in the Mountain Valley Conference.
The Hawks shot out to a 10-2 lead to start the contest before the Generals battled back to trail by 1 at the end of the first quarter and by a score of 36-35 at the end of the half. Herkimer then stormed out to start the third quarter, outscoring Mohawk Valley 21-13 in those ten minutes to take a 56-49 lead going into the 4th. The Generals continued their strong play, leading by as much as 12 points before the Hawks made a late run before losing by 6.
Namir Davis (Utica, NY) scored 17 points while Lexi DeBeatham (Menands, NY) added 16 points, with 4 3-point baskets. Center Alysia Roldan (East Greenbush) chipped in with 10 points.
The Generals continue their push to the Region III Playoffs as they have a busy weekend on tap with a home game on Saturday vs Clinton at 1:00 PM followed by a trip on Sunday to Auburn, NY to take on the Cayuga Spartans for another 1:00 tip time.
