Tenacious defense gains another win for Generals

Watertown, NY – The Herkimer women's basketball team enjoyed a big first half and played tenacious defense in defeating SUNY Jefferson 49-38 on Thursday evening. The Herkimer Five are undefeated in this young season.

Defense has been a focal point in the team's efforts this year, and those efforts paid off handsomely against the Lady Cannoneeers. The visitors held the home side to just 25% shooting in the first half, while scoring 30 points themselves. The halftime score was 30-14 Herkimer.

The Generals' record is now 3-0, and in all three games they have held their opponents to 50 or fewer points. Allie Webb had seven steals against Jefferson, and Aniya Webb stole the ball five times. Aniya also grabbed six rebounds and assisted on five tallies.

Whitney Brown again led the team in scoring, but this time the scoring was well balanced among teammates. Brown's 14-point total was complemented by Victoria Seabrooks' 12 and Shi Williams' 10.

The Generals will be back in action on the Herkimer hilltop on Saturday. They will host the University of Connecticut at Avery Point in a game that will tip off at 2:00 p.m.
