Generals subdue Spartans 79-45

Herkimer, NY – The Generals led from start to finish in their home game with the Cayuga CC Spartans on Saturday afternoon. Ten different Generals scored as the team rolled to a 79-45 win.

wbball 12 02 2012 RandioFreshman Victoria Seabrooks opened the scoring with a free throw, Whitney Brown scored two field goals, Seabrooks added an FG with a nice spin move, and the home side led 7-4. The Generals had taken control of the game and would not relinquish that control.

Herkimer's offensive production has been improving in recent games. The team scored 66 against North Country and 69 at Tompkins Cortland in their last two outings. On Saturday they tallied their highest point total yet – 79.

The Generals had a 15-7 lead eight minutes into the game when Cayuga's leading scorer, Tyresha Mathis (15.4 points per game) was injured in a collision. The 5'10" forward had to leave the game and could not return. Herkimer's squad was no doubt pleased with the win, but the Generals were also aware that they did not get to see the Spartans at their best.

The first half ended with Herkimer ahead 47-18. It almost ended with a spectacular shot. Senior guard Aniya Webb was having another strong game. As the clock ticked down Webb let fly a shot from 45' out. It hit the backboard and went in, but time had expired just before the ball left her hand.

The second half was all Herkimer. Alyssa Craig scored two nice field goals in a row – one a reverse layup and the other a three-pointer.

Several Generals who have not had a lot of playing time this season got into the game. Guard Destiny Waters added five points to the Herkimer ledger. Kayla Guidi added four.

The win raised the team's season record to 7-2. The squad will now prepare to host the SUNY Delhi Broncos on Thursday evening. That game will tip off at 5:00 p.m.
