Generals better the Barons 65-30

wbball 01 27 2013 WilliamsHerkimer, NY – The Generals opened their Sunday afternoon battle with Corning with an overwhelming assault. Midway through the first half the home team had 19 points while the visiting Red Barons had just three.

Victoria Seabrooks got Herkimer on the scoreboard with a field goal. Aniya Webb sank a 16' jumper. Webb then fed Samantha Randio, who tallied two. Webb drained a three from the left side. The score was 9-2, and the Generals were off and running.

Whitney Brown scored. Webb sank a nine-footer. Shileeka Williams scored after taking a pass from Webb. The Generals were putting up points, and they were doing it with a balanced attack.

wbball 01 27 2013 BrownThe Generals kept up the pressure. Alyssa Craig got on the scoresheet with a three. The halftime score was 35-14 Herkimer.

Williams opened the second half with a three-pointer from the right of the arc's center. The Generals were clearly in charge. They made a particularly nice, multi-pass play that ended with another Williams three. (See video below.) The scoreboard read 47-20.

The Generals kept the pressure on the Barons. The final score was 65-30.

Herkimer is in the midst of a most formidable week-plus. The current Region III coaches' poll has Mohawk Valley ("MV") ranked #1, followed in order by Onondaga, Fulton-Montgomery ("FM"), and Herkimer. The 15-4 Generals outplayed and outscored FM last Tuesday, then defeated Delhi at Delhi on Friday and downed Corning on Sunday. Now they will host MV on Tuesday and Onondaga on Thursday.

The MV game will tip off at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, on the Herkimer hardwood. It will be followed by the Herkimer men hosting the men of Fulton-Montgomery at 7:00. Herkimer basketball fans will have the chance to see two most worthy opponents that night.
