Assistant Coach Men's Basketball

Matt Tomaino

Matt Tomaino has been an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team since 2008, playing two seasons (2003-2005) for the Generals under current Head Coach Matt Lee. After graduation from Herkimer, Tomaino continued his playing career at Castleton State College (VT), where he played two seasons and graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports administration in the spring of 2008. In his final semester at Castleton he joined the men's basketball coaching staff as a student assistant and helped the Spartans earn a 15-11 overall record.

Since his return to Herkimer College, Matt has been a part of six Region III Championship teams (10’, 13’, 14’ , 15', 17', 18' and 19') and eight appearances at the NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament (2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020). Matt was a member of the coaching staff that brought home the 2019 NJCAA Division III National Championship, the second in program history

Tomaino resides with his wife Amanda in Rome, NY.
