Purcell named NJCAA National Player of the Week

Herkimer, NY–Herkimer College women’s soccer player Kristen Purcell was named NJCAA Women’s Soccer National Player of the Week for week of August 19-25.

Purcell, of Sauquoit, NY, is raking in accolades for her early season resume. The sophomore midfielder was named United Soccer Coaches Junior College Player of the Week and Region III Player of the Week previously.

In the first three games for the Generals, Purcell had the game-winner in each contest to help the team to a 5-2 win over Nassau Community College, a 3-1 win over Holyoke Community College, and a 3-0 win over Onondaga Community College.

“It is always nice for players to be recognized for their accomplishments, and KP definitely has earned it,” said Jason Palkovic, head women’s soccer coach for the Generals. “But it really is a reflection on how well and quickly the team is coming along. I am happy for her and the team for these honors.”

The women’s soccer team is 5-0 on the season as it heads into its next game on September 14 at home against Jamestown Community College.
