Herkimer ends season with win at National Tournament

Clark, NJ - The Herkimer Generals Women's Soccer team ended their season on a high note on Thursday morning with a 3-0 win over Suffolk County Community College in the 2020-2021 NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Championships. The win evened the Generals record to 4-4 on the spring campaign.

The #5 seeded Generals wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Hailey Traut (Frankfort, NY) scored the first goal of the game just 3:40 into the contest to give Herkimer a 1-0. Alexis Smith (Salisbury Center, NY) added to the Generals lead just 15 minutes later to Herkimer a 2-0 lead that they would take into halftime. Smith scored her second goal of the game with 28 minutes left to complete the Generals scoring on the afternoon. Kurstin Gay (Herkimer, NY) made four saves on the afternoon to get the win in goal for Herkimer.

This was the fourth straight appearance at the National Tournament for Head Coach Jason Palkovic. The Generals have won at least one game at Nationals in each of those 4 visits, highlighted by their Runner-up finish in 2017.
