Herkimer Softball Advances to Region IIIA Finals

Herkimer, NY-- The Region III #1 seeded Herkimer Generals hosted the #8 seeded Columbia Greene Twins this afternoon in the "Super-Tuesday", now "Super Wednesday" sub-regional playoff game.  The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, was pushed to Wednesday due to unfavorable field conditions from four straight days of rain.

The Herkimer defense was strong in the first inning shutting down the first three batters.  The Generals started their offensive run in the second inning when they scored five runs starting with a two run triple down the right field line by Frankfort, NY native Bailee Haddad.  Another five runs came in the fourth for Herkimer putting the mercy rule into affect.  This inning was sparked by freshman Shannon Moore (Norwich, NY) who hit her second double this game.  Molly McGuire (Syracuse, NY) traded places with her and scored on a bloop hit from Lacy Nealy (Montrose, PA).  Later that inning freshman catcher Morgan Sgarlata (Oneida, NY) tripled over the right fielder's head to drive in two more runs.

Herkimer defeated Columbia Greene 10-1 to advance to the Region IIIA Championships hosted by Genesee Community College.  The Generals will be playing the #4 seeded Genesee Friday in games 2&4 of the tournament, 12PM & 4PM.  Genesee earned their way to the 'ship by defeating Erie Community College on Tuesday 5-0.
