# 1 Herkimer wins two on Day 1 of National Tournament, advances to National Semifinal on Friday

Rochester, Minnesota - The # 1 ranked Herkimer Generals took two games on the first day of the 2018 NJCAA Division III National Softball Tournament. The two wins advances Herkimer to the National Semifinal game on Friday, May 18 vs the four time defending national champion Rock Valley Golden Eagles (IL). 

In Game 1 on Thursday, Herkimer shot out to a 7-1 lead over # 8 seed Itasca (MN) on only 5 hits. The Generals would hold on for the 7-4 win. Keeanna Woicik (Baldwinsville, NY) went 5 strong innings in the circle to get the win. Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY) had 2 RBI's on the day.

In Game 2, the Generals faced the # 4 seed from Lehigh Carbon CC (PA). Herkimer trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth before plating 5 to take the lead. The big hit was a 2 run single delivered by Woicik. Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) got the win, striking out 12 batters on the day and only giving up three hits. 

The Generals and Golden Eagles will meet up in the National Semifinals for the fifth straight year. The matchup between the # 1 and # 2 ranked teams in the country is set to start at 5:00 PM EST on Friday afternoon.
