Puppolo, Hogan lead Generals to sweep of SUNY Broome

Herkimer, NY - Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) and Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) led the way for the Herkimer Generals as they opened the 2019 home portion of their schedule with a doubleheader sweep of the SUNY Broome Hornets by scores of 10-0 (5 innings) in Game 1 and 12-1 (5 innings) in Game 2. The wins pushed the Generals record to 15-5 on the year and extended their current winning streak to seven games.

In Game 1, Puppolo dominated the Hornets on the bump, giving up only one hit and striking out seven in five innings of work. Hogan went 3 for 3 in the first game, knocking in five runs with two doubles and a single. Vani Patel (Eastvale, CA) started the Herkimer scoring with a solo home run in the first and the Generals broke it open in the second inning by scoring six more times. Puppolo, Hogan, MaKenzie Beeler (Jamesville, NY) and Brooke Snyder (Suntee, CA) each tallied RBI hits in the decisive second inning. 

Hogan completed her 7 for 7 performance on the day with a 4 hit, 4 RBI performance in the nightcap. She doubled three times before homering in the fifth inning to pace the Generals attack. Again the second inning was the turning point in the contest, with Herkimer notching 5 runs to pull away from the Hornets. The Generals racked up 16 hits in Game 2 as Victoria De La Cruz (Whittier, CA) had 3 hits, which included a home run and Taylor Zaino (Newport, NY), Madysen Petty (Vernal, Utah) and Patel each had multiple hit games to complete the sweep. Taylor Betz (Cheektowaga, NY) got the win on the mound for Herkimer, going five innings and striking out six while walking none.

The Generals, ranked #2 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, now set their sights on a huge matchup with Region III rival Corning Community College on Saturday afternoon, April 7th. First pitch will take place at 12 Noon at Herkimer High School
