Softball opens Conference play with road sweep of Columbia-Greene
Hudson, NY - The Herkimer Generals opened their Mountain Valley Conference schedule by going on the road and sweeping a doubleheader from the Columbia-Greene Twins by scores of 16-0 and 8-0 on Thursday afternoon in Hudson, NY. The wins raises Herkimer's record to 19-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) set the tone for the day for the Generals, shutting out the Twins in Game 1 of the twinbill. Puppolo went 5 innings and surrendered just two hits while striking out 4 and walking none. The Generals offense scored in each of the 5 innings, led by Natasha Holt (Melbourne, Australia) who went 3 for 4 in the game with 3 RBI's. Brianna Hoskins (Washington Township, NJ), Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY), Brooke Snyder (Suntee, CA), and Vani Patel (Eastvale, CA) each had 2 hits in the game for Herkimer, who put the game away by scoring 10 runs in the 4th and 5th innings.
In Game 2 it was Jessica Johnston's (Brussels, Ontario) turn to take the mound for the Generals and she delivered a great performance, striking out 5 and only allowing 3 hits in her 5 innings of work. Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) went 2-3 with 2 runs batted in and Mariah Galletta also went 2-3 for the in the game with an RBI.
The Generals now look forward to a big weekend of games as they will travel to Dryden, NY on Saturday afternoon to take on the Tompkins-Cortland Panthers at 2:00 PM and then return home to host Niagara CCC on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
