Herkimer and Onondaga battle to split doubleheader

Syracuse, NY - In a battle between two of the top teams in Region III, the Herkimer Generals and Onondaga Lazers split a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Syracuse, NY. The Lazers snapped the Generals 15 game winning streak with a 2-0 win in Game 1 and the Generals fought back with a 5-3 walkoff win in Game 2 to salvage the split.

In Game 1, the Generals only managed 4 hits off OCC starting pitcher Isabel Milazzo as Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) and Makenzie Keeler (Jamesville, NY) tallied the only extra base hits in the game for Herkimer, with Hogan hitting a double and Keeler adding a triple. Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) was the tough luck loser for Herkimer, as she allowed only 1 hit and 1 earned run over 6 innings of work while striking out 5.

Vani Patel (Eastvale, CA) was the Game 2 hero for the Generals, as her 2-run homer in the bottom of the 7th off of Milazzo gave Herkimer the walk-off win. Brianna Hoskins (Washington Township, NJ) went 2-3 in the nightcap with 2 RBI's as well. Taylor Betz (Cheektowaga, NY) got the win on the mound for the Generals, battling through 7 innings of work while scattering 6 hits and giving up 3 runs.
