Generals sweep away Raiders

Johnstown, NY - The Herkimer Generals shook off a recent offensive slump by scoring 29 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Fulton Montgomery Raiders on Thursday afternoon in Johnstown, NY. The wins gives the Generals a record of 28-6 overall and a perfect 6-0 mark in Mountain Valley Conference play. 

In Game 1's 19-1 win, the Generals scored 5 in the first inning and 7 in the second inning, highlighted by Aubrey Ketcham's (Otisville, NY) 3 run homer, to put away the Raiders early on and cruise to the win. Vani Patel (Eastvale, CA) and Alyssa Ramirez (Bay City, TX) each tallied 2 hits as Herkimer had 16 hits in the game. Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) went 4 innings on the mound, giving up only 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 9. Ciel Iida (Tokyo, Japan) pitched the last inning for the Generals, giving up 1 hit.

In Herkimer's 10-0 Game 2 win, the Generals used another big second inning, this time scoring 6 runs in that frame, to pull away from F-M. Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) and Brooke Snyder (Suntee, CA) each had 3 hits in the win while Mariah Galletta (Oswego, NY) went 2-2 and drove in 3 runs. Patel, Taylor Zaino (Newport, NY) and Makenzie Keeler (Jamesville, NY) each notched 2 hits as part of Herkimer's 17 hits in the game. Taylor Betz (Cheektowaga, NY) gave up 2 hits and struck out 6 in 4 innings of work and Jessica Johnston (Brussels, Ontario) threw the last inning, needing only 8 pitches to finish off the game and the sweep for Herkimer.

The Generals, ranked # 3 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, now prepare for a busy weekend as they will travel to Glens Falls on Saturday afternoon to take on SUNY Adirondack at 1:00 PM and then return home Sunday to take on Dutchess Community College. Game time for Sunday is also set for a 1:00 start.
