Betz, Puppolo shut down Jefferson CC

Watertown, NY - Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) and Taylor Betz (Cheektowaga, NY) each throw complete game one-hit shutouts as the # 3 National Ranked Herkimer Generals swept a doubleheader from the Jefferson CC Cannoneers by scores of 13-0 and 10-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Watertown. The wins lift Herkimer's overall record to 30-6 on the year and gives them their 7th win a row.

Puppolo took the bump in Game 1, striking out 8 and walking just 1 in her 5 innings of work. She was supported by Taylor Zaino (Newport, NY), Vani Patel (Eastvale, CA), Natasha Holt (Melbourne, Australia), and Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY) who all had 2 hits apiece. The Generals broke the game open in the third inning, scoring 10 runs in that frame to put the Cannoneers away. The big hit that inning was a bases clearing double by Makenzie Keeler (Jamestown, NY)

Game 2 saw Betz take the mound and matching Puppolo's Game 1 performance with a dominant one of her own. Betz struck out 9 and walked just 1 in 5 innings. The third inning again proved to be the big one for the Herkimer offense, scoring 7 times to give the Generals a 9-0 at the end of 3. Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) went 2-3 with 2 RBI"s while Victoria De La Cruz (Whittier, CA) added 2 hits of her own in the game. 

With Herkimer's doubleheader with Cayuga cancelled on Wednesday, the Generals will next attempt to take the field on Thursday, May 2 as they will travel to Batavia, NY to take on the Genesee Cougars. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
