Herkimer crushes Monroe, advances to Region IIIA Championship against Genesee
Clinton, NY - The Herkimer Generals wanted to get off to a fast start in their Region IIIA Semifinal vs Monroe at Hamilton College on Wednesday afternoon. Mission accomplished.
The # 1 seeded Generals scored 9 runs in the first, followed by 9 more in the second, to crush the # 8 Monroe Tribunes by a score of 22-3 to advance to the Region IIIA Championships on Friday afternoon at Corning Community College. The win raises the Generals record to 43-6 on the season and extends their current winning streak to 20 in a row.
Vani Patel (Sunvale, CA), Natasha Holt (Melbourne, Australia), and Brianna Hoskins (Washington Township, NJ) all hit home runs in the Herkimer offensive explosion. Hoskins went 3 for 3 with 5 RBI's while Patel added 3 hits and 4 RBI's. Holt two hits included a second inning Grand Slam and 3 runs scored. Taylor Zaino (Newport, NY), Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) and Brooke Snyder (Suntee, CA) each tallied 2 hits as part of the Generals 21 hit attack.
Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA) got the start, going 2 innings while allowing only 1 hit and striking out 4. Taylor Betz (Cheektowaga, NY), Ciel Iida (Tokyo, Japan), and Hunter VanArnum (Schuylerville, NY) each pitched an inning in relief to complete the 5 inning win.
Herkimer, the #3 ranked team in the nation, now looks ahead to the best of 3 Region IIIA Championship Series which starts on Friday at Corning Community College. The Generals will take # 5 seed Genesee Community College with the winner of the best of 3 advancing to the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Rochester, Minnesota on May 23-25. Game 1 on Friday vs Genesee starts at 12 Noon with Game 2 scheduled for 4:00 PM. If the teams split, they will play a winner take all Game 3 on Saturday afternoon.
