Herkimer loses National Championship to Rock Valley College

Rochester, Minnesota - The Herkimer Generals needed one win on Saturday to claim the program's first National Championship since 2013, but #1 Rock Valley wasn't quite ready to hand over the title.

The Golden Eagles won their 6th National Title in a row by sweeping the Generals by scores of 21-6 in Game 1 of the day and then coming right back to win the National Championship Game by a score of 6-1. The 6th title in a row is a NJCAA record across all divisions. It was Herkimer's 5th runner-up finish in the last 6 years and concluded their season with a record of 48-8.

Game 1 saw Herkimer fall behind early and never be able to recover. Brooke Snyder (Suntee, CA) hit a 2 run home run and Madysen Petty (Vernal, UT) added a pinch hit 2 run single in the 7th, but it not nearly enough as Rock Valley used a 7 run first and and 8 run 4th frame to cruise to the victory. The Generals were dealt a crippling blow as star Vani Patel (Eastvale, CA) suffered a hyperextended knee and was unavailable to play for the rest of the day.

In the National Title Game, it was a much closer affair but the Generals just could not get the bats going as they were limited to 6 hits and 1 run. Herkimer's only run of the game came on a Jennah Hogan (East Greenbush, NY) groundout in the 5th inning after Rock Valley had a 5-0 lead. After that, Herkimer could not muster any more offense as the Golden Eagles won their third game of the day to win the National Championship.

Hogan, Patel, Snyder, and Natasha Holt (Melbourne, Australia) all earned spots on the 2019 National Championship All-Tournament team while Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY) was named the Defensive Player of the tournament as well.

While the season feel just short of the ultimate goal, the Generals set a new school record with 48 wins, which included a 25 game win streak that was snapped on Saturday, and advanced to the National Championship Game for the 6th time in 7 seasons. Congratulations to Coach PJ Anadio, his coaching staff, and his student-athletes on a great season.
