Softball takes two from Panthers on the road

DRYDEN, NY – Generating double digit runs totals in their last five games now, the Herkimer General softball team swept Tompkins-Cortland on the road Saturday (4/18), defeating the panthers 22-0 and 26-0.

Herkimer (16-7) collected 36 hits in the doubleheader and never trailed in any inning. Going perfect from the plate in game one was sophomore Alexis Capasso (Gloversville, NY) The infielder went 3-for-3 from the plate, for a season-high three runs batted in, giving her nine RBI this season.

Capasso wasn’t the only General to go perfect at the plate however. In game two, Terra Lawler (Syracuse, NY), Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY), Lindsey Parese (Herkimer, NY), Samantha Elliott (Ontario, Canada), Kayla Bancroft (Fort Ann, NY) and Korey Bunal (Rome, NY) didn’t record an out in four innings of play. Lawler went 4-for-4 with a season-high four RBI, Hart went 3-for-3 with a season-high three RBI, Parese went 3-for-3 with a season-high three RBI, Elliott went 2-for-2 with a season-high three RBI, Bancroft went 2-for-2 with one RBI and Bunal went 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Pitching for the Generals in the doubleheader was Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) and Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY). Nicoletti threw her second shutout of the season for her sixth win (6-3), allowing two hits in four innings of work. As for Ormond, the sophomore got her second shutout of the season, allowing three hits in five innings of work.

Herkimer’s next doubleheader is Sunday (4/19). They’ll host Clinton Community College in their first doubleheader of the season at Herkimer College. Play for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
