28 consecutive wins with sweep of Hawks at home

(Herkimer's Amy Hart collected nine strikeouts in the Generals 8-1 win in game one at home).

HERKIMER, NY – Finishing out the regular season with 10 games in a week didn’t faze the Herkimer Generals softball team as they increased their current win streak to 28 games with an 8-1 and 32-2 sweep of Mohawk Valley at home on Sunday (5/3)

Herkimer (32-7, 7-0) played their toughest stretch of games in the final week with playoffs right around the corner. Games against Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes and Onondaga occurred before the doubleheader with the Hawks, outscoring those three teams 68-to-19. Much of the same occurred against Mohawk Valley, outscoring them 40-to-3, helping Herkimer finish a perfect 12-0 in the conference.

Holding the Hawks to three runs in 12 innings of work between both games was Amy Hart (St. Johnsville) and Shania McEvoy (Middleville, NY). Each freshman threw a complete game for the Generals. Hart allowed one run on four hits in seven innings while McEvoy allowed two runs off of two hits in five innings. Hart is now 6-0 and McEvoy is 4-2.

With Hart and McEvoy keeping Mohawk Valley’s bats at bay, the Generals erupted for 48 hits in the doubleheader, 34 of those coming in game two. Of the 48 hits, six were home runs by Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY), Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY), Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY) and Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY). Daniels and LeBaron hit multiple shots, giving both players the team-lead in that category with six. As for Brone and Ormond, their long balls came in game two, helping Brone to a season-high four RBI’s and Ormond to one RBI, collecting 22 total thus far in the season.

Up next for the Generals is the Region III playoffs, more specifically the semifinals. Herkimer will host Jefferson Community College at Herkimer College this Tuesday, May 5th. The Cannoneers have lost their last six games, also playing Herkimer earlier in the regular season where they lost 6-0 and 12-1. Game time on Tuesday (5/5) is 4 p.m.

Game One:

Herkimer Generals 8, Mohawk Valley Hawks 1

Game Two:
