Softball Region III ‘A’ Champions with sweep of Tribunes

(Herkimer's Brittany Ormond led the Generals with four RBI in game one, going 2-for-3 at the plate).

(Herkimer's Taylor Daniels collects her second RBI of the doubleheader, doubling home Dana Nicoletti in the third).

BATAVIA, NY – For the fourth consecutive season now, the Herkimer Generals softball team will be headed to Rochester, MN for the 2015 NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament, defeating Monroe Community College 8-5 and 9-0 in a best of three series Friday (5/8) at Genesee Community College, collecting their 31st consecutive win in the process.

Herkimer (35-7, 12-0) - like they have all season - jumped out to an early lead in the doubleheader, scoring at least three runs before their opponent managed to get on the board. In game one Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) and Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY) plated three runs with a double and single back-to-back which scored Karintha Myslivecek (Redfield, NY), Daniels and Kayla Bancroft (Fort Ann, NY). Daniels finished the game with two doubles and one run batted in, while Ormond drove in four Generals which tied her season-high of four RBI in a game.

In game two, hits by Hannah Potter (Pulaski, NY), Terra Lawler (Syracuse, NY) and Daniels scored Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY), Alexis Capasso (Gloversville, NY) and Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY). Both Lawler and Daniels finished the game with an RBI, but were behind Bancroft and Potter who had two.

With Herkimer jumping on their opponent, it allowed Nicoletti and Ormond to do their job on the mound, holding the Tribunes to five runs in 14 innings of work. Ormond had the better outing, collecting her fourth shutout and eighth win (8-2) of the season, giving up three hits in seven innings to the third best offense in the region, making up for her sub-regional performance where she allowed four runs in two innings. Nicoletti allowed five earned runs in her eighth complete game of the season, going seven for her 11th win (11-3) which ranks 5th best in the region.

As mentioned previously, Herkimer will now travel to Rochester, MN to compete in the 2015 NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament. Joining them from our region is Hudson Valley, who beat Genesee on the ‘B’ bracket. The national tournament has yet to be seeded, but will be held at McQuillan Sports Complex from May 14th to May 16th.
