PETERSBURGH, VA – Playing in their seventh doubleheader, totaling 15 games in nine days and three states, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team split with DII Richard Bland on Saturday (3/19), winning game one 11-7, but losing game two 8-6.
In game one, Herkimer (11-4) found themselves down 3-0 until scoring 10 runs between the fourth and sixth to give the team a 10-7 lead. Helping the offense to those totals was Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY), Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY), Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY) and Sydney Cimini (Syracuse, NY). McGuire led the way with four runs batted in which tied her season-high, seeing the freshman finish her spring trip with 21 RBI which is the fourth best total in the nation.
Daniels was the only other General to get multiple RBI, tallying multiple runs batted in during seven games, only held twice without an RBI throughout 15 games played. After Daniels, Brone and Cimini both had one RBI. Brone went 1-for-3 and Cimini went 2-for-3 in game one.
Collecting the win in game one was Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA). The freshman tied Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) with the team lead in wins (3) after coming in relief of Nicoletti, going 2 2/3 of an inning, and only allowing one run off of four hits.
In game two, Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY) got her first loss of the season, allowing seven runs (four earned) from 10 hits in in 4 2/3. Jacqueline Gardner (Syracuse, NY) had to come in relief of Hart to throw the final 1 1/3 inning.
Offensively, Lacy Nealy (Montrose, PA) had her best game of the season, collecting two RBI from one hit in three plate appearances. Joining Nealy with RBI’s in game two was Daniels and McGuire.
