Softball knocked out of national tournament with 5-4 loss

ROCHESTER, MN – For the third straight season, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team was unable to defeat #1 Rock Valley in the NJCAA D3 National Championship Tournament at McQuillan Sports Complex in Rochester, MN – finishing second for the third straight time.

Herkimer (46-7, 13-0) did manage to capture a 4-0 lead over the Golden Eagles in the fifth inning of Saturday’s (5/21) game. Scoring the first run for the Generals was Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY). The sophomore scored the first run of the game on an Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY). Brone finished 1-for-3 in the game.

The other three runs came on a Sydney Cimini (Syracuse, NY) double. The catcher scored Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY), Bailee Haddad (Frankfort, NY) and Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY) to lead 4-0.

In the bottom half of the inning with starter Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) holding Rock Valley to no runs to that point, the left hander gave up five runs, all of them earned. She finished with the loss, walking four and striking out three.
