Numerous Top 5 finishes at Delhi, Hutchison breaks another record

(Herkimer's Brandon Paul finished in sixth place Saturday in the breaststroke, posting a 1:16.80).

DELHI, NY – The Herkimer Generals swimming and diving team continued their season on the road Saturday (11/22) at the Kunsela Hall Aquatics Center of SUNY Delhi, seeing the men finish sixth and the women finish fifth.

Herkimer’s men had three Top 5 finishes. Capturing one individually was sophomore Brandon Paul (Gloversville, NY) and freshman Dean Schrider (Holland Patent, NY). Paul’s came in the 200 yd. Freestyle, swimming a 2:09.00, while Schrider’s came in the 100 yd. Butterfly, posting a 1:04.95. Collectively the men also swam well enough in the 200 yd. Medley Relay, capturing fifth place. The group of Paul, Anthony Donis (Manhattan, NY), Schrider and Gregory Ashe (Watertown, NY) swam 2:03.09.

The Generals’ women had a couple more Top 5 finishes in Bronco country than the men, capturing four individually and two in relays. Corinne Richer (Clinton, NY) did it in the 100 yd. Butterfly, Hannah Watts (Norwich, NY) did it in the 100 yd. Backstroke and Erin Hutchison (Macedon, NY) did it in the 100 yd. Breaststroke and 1650 yd. Freestyle. Richer came in second with a 1:17.19, Watts came in fifth with a 1:21.87 and Hutchison came in third and first with a 1:26.00 and 21:57.79. Hutchison’s time in the 1650 broke her own school record, an event she earned second team All-Region honors in last season.

The Generals final two Top 5 finishes came in the 200 yd. Medley Relay and 200 yd. Freestyle Relay. The group of Victoria Bemiss (Canaan, NY), Watts, Richer and Hutchison captured second place in the medley relay (2:24.02) and fifth place in the freestyle relay (2:08.37).
