Women’s Tennis falls to Hornets at home

HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals women’s tennis team faced the best team in the Region III Thursday (10/2), losing to Broome Community College 9-0.

Herkimer (0-8, 0-5) was competitive in third and sixth singles, seeing both matches go an extra set. Both Emilee Lanz (Oneida, NY) and Sam Suarez (Monticello, NY) won the second set against the Hornets, but were unable to win in extras.

Then in doubles, the solid combination of Jordan Mercer (Oneida, NY) and Lanz lost to Rebecca Sturdevant and Lauren Crowley 8-6.

The Generals next match is on Saturday (10/4). It will be their final hosted match of the season. They’ll face Onondaga Community College for a second time this season. Match play is scheduled for 1 p.m.

4th Singles: Lauren Crowley (BROOME) def. Mayuko Suzuki (HERK) 6-0, 6-1

5th Singles: Madison Tassey (BROOME) def. Doyoung Noh (HERK) 6-2, 6-1

6th Singles: Samantha Smalley (BROOME) def. Sam Suarez (HERK) 6-2, 4-6, (10-8)

1st Doubles: Roach & Lounsberry (BROOME) def. Kanno & Suzuki (HERK) 8-0

2nd Doubles: Sturdevant & Crowley (BROOME) def. Mercer & Lanz (HERK) 8-6

3rd Doubles: Tassey & Smalley (BROOME) def. Suarez & Noh (HERK) 8-0
